Global appoints Bob Strawbridge as Head of Rail

Global, one of Europe’s leading Out-of-Home (OOH) companies, has announced the appointment of Bob Strawbridge as Head of Rail, signalling the media owner’s ongoing commitment to driving commercial growth in the rail industry.

As Head of Rail, Bob will work closely with Global's rail franchise partners and will be responsible for productising Global’s rail offering, by combining unique first party data, packaging and pricing to bring client-focused solutions to market. He will work alongside Colin McAlinden (Head of Bus) and Cedric Rouse (Head of Digital) in Exterion’s Product Strategy team, reporting into Andrea Marsh, Product Strategy Director, who joined the business in January last year. His role commences in March 2019.

Strawbridge joins Exterion from Strawbridge Consulting, a sales and marketing consultancy which he set up in 2016. He brings a wealth of OOH advertising and sales experience, across both small and large media owners. His previous roles include sales director and MD at start-up TenNine Media, a UK media owner in the secondary school sector, and sales manager and group head at Maiden Outdoor, which was acquired by Titan in 2006 and then JCDecaux in 2010. Strawbridge successfully managed multi-million-pound accounts such as Unilever, Tesco and P&G, and was responsible for developing and implementing commercial sales strategies, working closely with ad agencies.

Global is the number one media owner in the UK transport sector, working with rail partners such as Great Western Railway, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, Transport for Wales, South Western Rail, Northern, Transport for Greater Manchester Metrolink and Merseyrail. The media owner manages rail advertising sites at over 1,500 stations in some of the biggest cities in the UK and across the networks, there is an annual footfall of 408 million.

Andrea Marsh, Product Strategy Director at Global, said: “As number one in transport, we work with our local, regional and national franchise partners to keep millions of people in the UK on the move. OOH reaches engaged and captive audiences in the best context, as they move through environments that have meaning to them. Transport media offers a unique advertising environment and the quality and breadth of our rail advertising assets mean we can offer advertisers the chance to reach audiences on a national scale, on transport and in transport environments. The work that we do on behalf of our franchise partners drives growth, urban change and connects the regions.

“This is an exciting time for everyone at Exterion, as OOH continues to grow. We’re investing across our advertising estate, as we introduce new premium full motion digital assets and maintain and improve on our classic static assets, to create the perfect combination of traditional and digital.”

Bob Strawbridge added: “With my roots firmly in sales and the OOH industry, it is a privilege to be joining the Global team. The agency has extensive coverage of the UK rail industry, working with some of the biggest transport businesses in the country. I look forward to working with Andrea and the rest of the Product Strategy team to grow our rail portfolio even further.”
